Student Teaching Classes
These two classes helped me start my educational technology journey. Although they were meant to assist in my student teaching experience, they also helped me learn new techniques and develop my passion for including technology into my teaching.
TE 803- "Professional Roles and Teaching Practice II"
Spring 2010, Christine Pereira
The focus text of CEP 803
This class was designed so students were grouped by the geographical area where they student taught. Since I did my student teaching in the Detroit area, the other students in class were also from surrounding Detroit locations. The class was a place for us to collaborate and also talk about how things were going in our student teaching placement. Classroom management was the central focus of the class. We discussed different ways to deal with students, as well as parents. We spent a lot of time analyzing the various components that influence student behaviors. We discussed how different classroom features, like physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual, would impact student experiences. It was helpful to work with others who were in similar situations and come up with solutions to help students learn.
TE 804- "Reflection and Inquiry in Secondary English Teaching Practice II"
Spring 2010, Carlin Borsheim
Grammar Research Findings
In this class we spent a lot of time talking about what it means to be a professional in English/ Language Arts. The class focused on looking at our teaching to identify problems, and use the knowledge we learned to help foster solutions. We started by identifying teaching difficulties; I chose teaching grammar. We observed our student teaching classrooms, implemented different techniques, and then reported to this class what worked well and what needed more work. The handout on the right is what I presented to my classmates. You can also find it here. Along with this type of research, we also videotaped ourselves teaching and analyzed what we saw, both individually and in small groups. It was a reflective process and helped improve my teaching. The class was a beneficial supplement to my student teaching year. I learned a lot from watching myself teach and was glad I could grow as a teacher before I had my own classroom.
