Welcome to Melissa Benoit's Student Showcase page!
Below I have included some examples exploring student learning in my class. You'll see pictures of them working on projects, as well as what they created. Enjoy!
Ice Breaker
Students working together in small groups to build the highest tower with a marshmallow on top using spaghetti, string, tape, and a marshmallow. The icebreaker forced students to work collaboratively to solve a problem. They needed to communicate effectively, design a plan, revise, and work together. These skills are also needed to be a successful English student.
Student Blogs
Students created their own blog using Gmail's Blogger feature. Instead of having a paper journal in class, students would respond to prompts and post work using their blog. Posting on the blog created an authentic audience and allowed students to share their work with other students.
Senior Research Projects
As part of the Senior English curriculum, students have to create and present a senior research project. Students have to pick a world issue or problem and talk about the problem, some solutions to the problem, and how they could personally get involved to help solve it. Then they present their project through a Google Presentation, Prezi, or Moviemaker. Below are some examples of the projects.

"Where I am From" Digital Stories
Another assignment is for students write "Where I am From" poems. The poems allow them to reflect on who they are and what helped shape them. I do this with my senior classes right before they graduate. They then create digital stories to go along with their poems using PhotoPeach or Windows Movie Maker. Below are some examples.
