Ed Tech Certificate Classes
These are the classes I took as part of the Educational Technology Certificate Program. I earned an educational technology certificate by successfully completing these classes (you can find the certificate on my certifications page). The three classes led into my Master's of Educational Technology program.
CEP 810- "Teaching for Understanding with Technology"
Summer 2012, Carolyn McCarthy
Personal Learning Network Glog
This was my first class in the MAET technology program. The class really opened my eyes to the different technologies that are available. It was also a great start of how to think about technology; not only how I can use it in the classroom, but how it impacts me personally. This class was the first time I have heard of TPaCK and it really opened my eyes to the importance of technological, pedagogical, content knowledge all working together. One of the first assignments asked us to think about the different interactions we have, both with technology and face-to-face. I made a glog (on the left) using Glogster to showcase my project. I also worked in a small inquiry group (SIG) to help create a website for The Catcher in the Rye. I enjoyed working with others and creating something concrete for my classroom. This class was the reason I applied to the MAET program. I knew I wanted to continue learning about using technology in my teaching.
CEP 811 - "Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education"
Fall 2011, Nancy Ayers
Credible Source Lesson Plan
This class was a continuation in the Educational Technology Certificate Program and built upon the concepts from CEP 810. The focus of this class was to start creating technology tools to use in the classroom. We started analyzing the different opportunities for technology and were able to practice applying them. The lesson plan on the right is one I created using Google Docs to teach how to find credible sources. I also added comments on the side to show how Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principals play an important role. The class was a helpful way to start thinking about the technology choices I'm making and how I am using them in the classroom.
CEP 812 - "Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice"
Fall 2012, Sylvia Plair
PollEverywhere Example
This was the last class in the Educational Technology Certificate Program. The class focused on looking at how to use technology to solve problems in the classroom. The first assignment in the class was a Wicked Problem Project, where we had to come up with a problem that could be solved with technology. The class also had a group project component where we used web-conferencing to create a professional development presentation. This class was also the first time I tried mobile technology in my classroom. I always thought cell phones should stay put away because they are a distraction to learning, however this class showed me some ways that mobile technology could improve learning (like the poll on the left that students answered with their phones).
